Charlie Mackesy

Charlie Mackesy, "I grew up in Northumberland where there was a lot of rural kindness, it was an environment that was filled with cups of tea and very cozy." Charlie Mackesy | Cambridge Union Youtube.

Graham Crowley

If there is no signature style, a few constants have emerged over the years. They include his use of grisaille – that is, working in shades of grey. And, a counterpoint to that, his liking for bursts of bright, almost fluorescent colour, though usually one colour at a time, the cadmiums, he specifies. It’s notable for the absence of black in the mix, lending it exceptional depth and softness. Aiden Dun, Graham Crowley: Nifty shades of grey and wild colour.

Helen Frankenthaler

"With her innovative soak-stain paintings, Frankenthaler embraced colour for its own sake, animating and elevating the most elemental sensations." Helen Frankenthaler and the Messy Art of Life/Adam Gopnik/TheNewYorker/2021

Vincent Van Gogh

"The uglier, older, meaner, iller, poorer I get, the more I wish to take my revenge by doing brilliant colour, well arranged, resplendent." Vincent Van Gogh
